Scholarships We are proud to announce the recipient of our 2009 FPA SF Scholarship – Ingrid Robinson. Ingrid is a student in the MS in Financial Planning program at GGU and a member of FPA SF. She currently works full time as Church Administrator at Heart of the Bay Christian Center in Hayward. In 2007 she was introduced to the financial planning profession by being asked to create a training program on personal finance for members of the congregation. This ultimately led her to view financial planning as a possible direction for her career, and she is now paying her own way through the MS in Financial Planning program at GGU. Her vision for practicing financial planning is to serve the under-served, and to help educate others in how to get control of their finances and prepare a better future for themselves and their families. As a way of leading by example, she is committed to not to incur any debt while pursuing her degree at GGU. We would like to give special recognition to our two very accomplished finalists Steve Swartzendruber and Melissa Huml. Steve made the most of being between jobs in 2009 by completing the accelerated CFP education program at SF State, and sitting for the CFP exam in November. He’s anxiously awaiting the results of that exam. An architect by training, Steve worked previously as a project manager for several architecture firms both here in the Bay Area and in Michigan. He has now decided to make a change and pursue a career in financial planning and wealth management. He’s currently looking for his first position in our field, so he would certainly welcome any leads anybody here today could offer. Melissa recently completed the CFP certificate program at UC Berkeley Extension and sat for the CFP exam in November. While at UC Berkeley, she really made a name for herself! She was a co-founder of the Student Advisory Board, and was awarded Student of the Year honors in 2009. Melissa is the mother of four children, and a former investment banker. She, too, is making a career change, and is beginning a job search in financial planning. We begin the application process for 2010 Scholarships in the Fall. We will announce this year’s program at the Chapter meetings and in the Chapter newsletter. Stay tuned! More information on the Scholarship program |
